Hitachi America, Ltd. gives back to the local communities in which it operates in a variety of ways. The company manages and coordinates several programs, directs community partnerships and actively participates and supports local community organizations and serves on Boards.

A particularly strong focus is engaging employees to participate in volunteer programs and other community engagement activities throughout the year. These efforts include both on-going involvement with organizations and short-term projects. Submit Request for Corporate Volunteer Support.

Hitachi America, Ltd. also assists non-profit organizations by making its conference rooms available for meetings and programs at no cost on a space availability basis at its headquarters in Tarrytown, NY. Conference room facilities can accommodate up to 30 people with state-of-the-art interactive technology equipment. Submit request for Conference Room Reservation.

Reading Program at John Paulding School – Tarrytown, NY

On a monthly basis, employees visit the John Paulding School and read a book to all of the first grade classes. Employees who participate in this program “adopt” a specific class for the year and become their “Hitachi reader.” Hitachi donates copies of each month’s book to the classes and the library. To celebrate the end of the school year, the children visit Hitachi’s Tarrytown headquarters. This program is now in its 9th year.

Annual Hitachi North America Food Drive

Annual Hitachi North America Food Drive

The North American Food Drive, which takes place each summer during the month of July, is a collaborative program among Hitachi’s Group companies throughout the United States. Hitachi Group companies have been participating in this annual drive in partnership with The Hitachi Foundation for 10 years.

In 2008, Hitachi America, Ltd. employees collected more than 6,000 pounds of food that were donated to local food pantries. The company also engaged local businesses and organizations in this effort to fight against hunger and will do the same in 2009.

Tanaka Scholarship

The Tsuneo Tanaka Scholarship was established in 1986 by Tsuneo Tanaka, former president of Hitachi America, Ltd. The first scholarship was awarded in 1986 and was renamed in 1998 in memory of Mr. Tanaka.

The Tsuneo Tanaka Scholarship program is awarded to a college-bound student at Sleepy Hollow High School, Sleepy Hollow, NY, who demonstrates academic excellence, involvement in community, and financial need. To date, Hitachi has provided scholarships to more than 20 students.
